Course Description:

Build your own skin-on-frame sea worthy kayak, 14 ft long and only 14 kg ready to paddle. Based upon the F1 design by Brian Schultz, this is a perfect craft for the beginner as well as a fun boat for more experienced paddlers. The high volume bow section sheds water easily and inspires confidence in all types of sea way while the narrow stern section acts as a skeg assisting in straight line tracking. This kayak will edge turn readily and is easily handled on land as well as in the water.

Peter Ingram-Jones has been building skin-on-frame craft for over 10 years.  He is passionate about light weight craft believing that the less they weigh, the more they are used. His exhibits at the Australian Wooden Boat Festival trading as “Canoes and Lampshades” are always popular and have opened the eyes of many to the advantages of skin-on-frame construction.

Paddling seriously or just merely floating in a skin-on-frame boat is a special experience, doing so in a craft that you yourself have brought to life is even more special. Add in your very own Greenland style paddle and we’re talking very special indeed. Come along and be part of a small group building their own skin-on-frame kayaks over 6 days on beautiful Bruny Island. No special skills are required other than a desire to  paddle your own canoe, in every sense…
