The Forestvale Design Centre Boat Building and Art School have developed a number of courses that may present the hands on challenge and interest that you have been looking for.
We have recruited Tasmanian and International artists and crafts people to run programs including traditional North American cedar strip and canvas canoe building, kayak building, wood skills for beginners, oil painting, the basics of house construction, sculpture carving and many more to be confirmed. The courses suit all levels of experience with class sizes that are small and intimate allowing all students the opportunity for personalised attention. There is much to learn from the experienced staff in a safe, relaxed environment. The desire to learn is all that is required at Forestvale Boat Building and Art School.

Registration is complete upon receipt by the Forestvale Design Centre of a registration form and the necessary deposit(s), and our confirmation of same. If a course is already full, you will be put on a waiting list and immediately notified when there is an opening.
Registration can be completed by submitting the REGISTRATION FORM online or by printing and emailing or mailing it back to us.

Forestvale is a beautiful drive south of Hobart. The first leg is 45 minutes south via Kingston to the town of Kettering where you board the car ferry Mirambeena for a 15 minute scenic trip across the D’Entrecasteax Channel to Roberts Point on North Bruny Island. You then drive south to just north to the township of Alonnah. We are at 79 Dillons Rd, 1 km off the main road.
Forestvale can provide transportation from the Hobart Airport or Hobart city for an additional fee. Please notify us two weeks in advance if you need to be picked up.
There is a variety of accommodation available with-in a 5-10 minute drive of our facility. Working closely with Bruny Island Accommodation Services we have identified shared student accommodation with individually locked rooms at reasonable rates. Please see our ACCOMMODATION page to book a place to stay that suits your budget.
Tuitions vary according to our costs and the length of the course. You will find the tuition amount(s) in each course description.
We ask you to deposit one-half of your total costs along with your application. The balance due must be paid one month before class begins. Your deposit, less a $100 fee per course, will be refunded in the event that you must cancel and do so at least one month prior to the beginning of the course. Deposits will be refunded in full to students who cancel three business days after registering for a course.
If your notice of cancellation is received between 15 and 30 days prior to the course, your tuition is not refundable, but can be credited toward future courses later in the season. If you must cancel less than 15 days before the course, we cannot refund or credit your money.
In case of emergency or insufficient number of registrations, the Forestvale Design Centre reserves the right to cancel a course and return all deposit money.
Because of this policy, we strongly urge you to buy refundable airline tickets or flight insurance. The Forestvale Design Centre will not be responsible for any loss on nonrefundable airline tickets.
Our commercial kitchen is located in the main gallery building with a spacious dining room with views to the forest, south west mountains and ocean. Breakfast is continental style with a variety of cereals, toast, fresh fruit, juices, tea coffee. Lunches are fresh sandwiches/bread rolls with a variety of fillings to choose from. Evening meals are home style cooking made from healthy fresh ingredients. Coffee and tea are available at any time.
For week long courses food is included from Sunday dinner to the following Saturday breakfast. A course end celebration BBQ will be held on the Friday night. A fully licensed bar is available. Our license precludes BYO alcohol.
Materials and Tools:
Any finished materials that go home with a student will be charged at our cost. The canoe class will have a boat ready to take home and finish. We raffle the canoe to those who may wish to purchase it. The winner will be responsible for paying material costs before leaving Forestvale.
